ArtsUP! LA and Returning Soldiers Speak are holding auditions for their upcoming play, Across Time: Love and Humanity During War. This play is the creation of a Veterans Empowerment Theater production of The Letters Project.
About The Letters Project
For the past 6 months, ArtsUP! LA and Returning Soldiers Speak have been collecting, researching, and curating letters and correspondence written by military personnel to members of their family and friends during times of war. The letters and correspondence embody the hopes, fears, and observations of those deployed during wartime from the Civil War to the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.
The letters and correspondence are the inspiration for an original theater performance, performed by professional actors—many of them veterans—and presented in Los Angeles at The Blue Door Theater in June, 2024. Using the letters, selected military veterans have written original monologues and scenes as part of a performance piece that includes sections of the letters.
Casting Call
We are currently in the casting phase of The Letters Project and are seeking non-equity actors. Financial Core and SAG/AFTRA are welcome. Actors that are military veterans are strongly encouraged to submit for the audition.
We will be casting for the following parts:
Male: 40’s- 70’s, any race
Male: 30’s- 60’s, any race
Male: 20’s - 30’s, any race
Male: 20’s - 40’s, any race
Female: 50’s - 70’s, any race
Female: 40’s - 60’s, any race
Female: 20’s - 30’s, any race
Female: 20’s - 40’s, any race
(Each actor will play multiple characters)
Schedule and Compensation
Rehearsal:
April 22nd - May 30th.
Rehearsals will be mostly in the evenings on weeknights with some weekend rehearsals. Flexible scheduling.
Performances:
May 31, June 1, June 7, June 8, June 9, June 14, June 15.
Compensation: $50 stipend per performance and $7 transportation stipend per rehearsal.
